Message: Just an Update. I have deleted the Video of offense. A little History on the video for you.

We at NeF had a School Assignment to create a video of controversy. After hearing a drunken story from a friend we decide to use it as a base for our video. Without any research or anything else we went ahead. After having are video previewed for the assignment, we were all expelled from are media Studies class and Suspended for 2 weeks from all other classes. We are sorry for the people offended and all the others that may have been disgusted with our video. There is no way we can really apologize and I hope that some day we can make peace with what we did.

    Sure wished "others" would do the same as you did and help out with getting this video Banned.. I am sure some people have helped but we will never know unless they let us know that they have..

  • what would possess ANYONE to make such a disgusting video is beyond me... Utube should start proofing all vidoes put unto the site before publishing them... i guess they'd be busy doing that but we really don't need stuff like that on the internet regardless if we watch it or not. Imagine what people thought when they watched it...actaully i CAN'T imagine. I'm glad it's gone!!! Awesome job to whoever informed Utube of it!

  • We had about many many responses to this issue from people all over the world, some contacted the user, some contacted YouTube, but before YouTube could act the user did the right things and removed the video PLUS he sent a very well written apology and I personally wrote him back and thanked him for removing the video.

    My point is...it was the work of everyone working as "ONE" and then the final lap that won the race was the user "removing the video" all my himself..

  • Jerry, nice work. Not to change the subject, but I am curious, what do Hutterites do for recreation? I am about to go golf and it just occurred to me we have not discussed hutterite r and r. Also, I am not signed up for myspace and I was wondering where do I email you directly without going through myspace or is it possible?

  • Hutterite leisure time....(from Schmiedeluet G1 perspective)...is pretty much like the "outside" leisure time.

    In winter, it is, of course, hockey, hockey, hockey. The guys build great looking hockey rinks, bring out the Zamboni and put on a game that rivals the NHL....ah well the latter is wishful thinking. But really, throughout the winter young people from other colonies come to play a games against each other. Even the girls play. Most colonies have a gym attached to the school where volleyball is always the second best (or first, depends who you ask) option for the yp.

    In summer, there's either soccer, baseball, football or volleyball every evening. We love swimming, hiking, biking, camping, fishing, golfing.

    Throughout the year we love to gather in groups to play guitar or other instruments and sing, whether it's around a campfire, or inside on a cold day. Leisure is also watching a movie, waste time on the internet, going visiting to other colonies, shopping in the city, long walks, and we all have our hobbies that we pass the time with.

    I could list more, but I think you get the drift....we have no lack of things to do and what a perfect place to do it, huh?

    If I would have been born a Schmiedeleaut Hutterite I probably would have never left the colony.

    Seriously. You guys have a lot of fun activities it seems. I had always heard that before but I never believed it. That is awesome, that you folks have such a great quality past-time.

    The Lehrerleut do not play Hockey, many of them (the after 15 crowd) do not play sports at all. The only sports they play are the ones during the 8th grade education process. Maybe a little baseball now and then etc..

    To most of my friends still living in the colony quality time is going on long walks with their friends, hanging out and visiting on their back porch, singing together for visitors etc.. And you know what. They love it. They do not feel like they miss much at all.

    Its funny how people can be happy based on what they know exists.. The Hutterites (all branches) are a living example that true happiness is found in the heart of family, friends, and their creator.

    Are you serious? They don't play sports? What do your young people do in the evenings? What is the Lehrerleut yp group like? Do they spend much time together or is it more individualism?

  • elizabeth, thank you for your comment to me. To be honest, just following the comments from some of the participants here, Hutterite life seems sweeter all the time. Especially the group Schmiedeleut appear to be progressive and recognize the need for their young people to be active as we do in non-colony life. I wonder though, what are some of the temptations of young people in the hutterite colony? Are they also having to deal with the meth problem as we do with our children? What about alcohol, is that a problem in the hutterite colony? Or are hutterite children so sheltered that these problems are not an issue? I am sure as with any religion children are taught at a young age how to conduct themselves. But even hutterite young people grow up to be teenagers at which time my daughter decided she knew more then I did:( you get the picture:). Again, Jerry your site is informative and enjoyable to read. p.s. Do hutterites allow people to come and stay if only to discover first hand what hutterite life is really like. I have no intention of joining but I think it would be interesting to live amongst hutterites say for a week or so.

  • I think the biggest challenge we have with the issues you brought up is with alcohol. Most of the time it's ignored, but we are becoming more in tune with these things and they are being handled, somewhat. We need to do more. Drugs are not a problem and have never been, maybe because the yp do not have any money to just throw away like that. Smoking is forbidden but some yp do it in secret although it never lasts.

    We are not as protected as we once were and not as naive to what is going on outside our community, with the internet coming in. The important thing with this is teach our young people what is right and wrong, and be extremely diligent in this task.

    And yes, we do have our problems.

    Some colonies do take in people to stay for a week just to experience it. But you would have respect our ways, dress like us and work with us.
