  • Wow! AWESOME video Jerry.
You answered my posted question, a Question I have asked myself over and over again. I answered that question for myself before I left but never took it too seriously I guess. I left the colony too, and I grew up knowing that I was going to leave, and not go back. I grew up listening to music, it has always been in my family, never shunned amongst our the community members, it was quite well respected, it played a great role in our everyday lives. After lunches the younger boys and girls would sit and chat for a few minutes sing a few songs requested by the ladies as they go about doing their kitchen chores. Music brought happiness and peace amongst the people, for we could all relate to the music and what we sang about.
After the raw age of 12, I found my interest in music, my dad bought me a guitar, I was stuck to it like glue. By the age of 14 I knew all the chords possible, but it didn't stop there, there is accually where it started. I started dreaming about making it big time, my talent became well known amongst the Alberta Dariusleut, everywhere i went someone knew me, or heard of me.
So when i turned 16 I acted toward persuing my dreams. I left the colony and soon got involved in some music gigs and jams in local bars and local events such as community christmases and local fairs. I plan to continue enjoying my musical talents. I hope to someday have my own band.
I set out to acchieve a higher aducation, and enrolled myself in correspondance, which I am currently working on. I also found that i loved carpentry, my dad was a carpenter. So I got onto the Alberta Apprenticeship Program. I go to highschool skills copetitions which I enjoy doing. I get a lot of support from the locals. I believe the secret to being a sucessful out here after leaving is to get out there, get involved and have some fun, and that is what some of these runaways are missing out on.
    Great advise by the way.

  • I just came across this website while I was looking up information on hutterites. I have been seeing an ex-hutterite for awhile now and I am curious and interested in the culture. I know a good group of guys in town here and some decide to go back to the colony after awhile, but for the most part, they all get married and have kids in town. I guess what is always on my mind is if this guy I am seeing is going to return. I don't have any suspision that he is unhappy or is just here to make money. But is it uncommon for ex-hutterites to change their minds later on down the road? He has been off the colony for about 4 years now, but is there any way of telling?

  • I love your name lol

It would be very unfair for me to speak on behalf of your boyfriend..

Only he knows the answer to that question. Love always wins over everything else.

Are you in the states? or in Canada?

Thanks for the comment and I wish you the absolute best.

  • I am confident you will figure it out. Just know that those of us who leave the colony struggle with a lot of emotions when it comes to family and the way some "people" make the Ex-Hutterites feel. Please forgive him for those days. He is doing his best. No.. I do not know your boyfriend but I know what he copes with.

    Peace

  • Music is actually a wonderful gift from the Lord. Not all of course like that secular stuff blaring across the radios today, but music, like hymns, old time gospel, music with a message and lifts up Jesus, is not bad at all. Is it worldly? If it's being sung about the Lord, how can it be worldly, know what I mean? :) It's interesting in the Bible, especially in the OT how music is really portrayed as exciting and in fact God shows us how wonderful it can be. Then in the NT He is kind of silent about the whole issue. I mean we are to make melodies in our hearts and to sing in hymns and praises (can't remember the exact verse right off the bat). For some denominations, that meant, God did away with instruments. I don't see that in those passages at all. Know what I mean?
There is nothing wrong with acapella music, I think it's beautiful. There is also nothing wrong with instrumental music, as long as it's all done for the Glory of God and not for man's Glory. :)

By the way, I have been a lurker on here for a few months now...just thought I would come on here and say hello. :)

    God Bless You!

  • Hello Dawn Marie

    Thanks for the comment.

I do agree with you and I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and giving us your wonderful feedback.

That is one thing that the Hutterites do... They embrace Acappella music but not Instrumental music (I am speaking Lehrerleut) I might have mentioned that in the video but I wanted to make sure that everybody understood that part.

They sing acapella music like the Angels themselves were sitting on their laps and it makes your spine tingle. I always love to go home and listen to a Hutterite Choir.

    Have a wonderful day
    Jerry
